It’s impossible to think about interior design when the beach is calling. Happy summer, and see you after Labor Day! (-Allie, Moe & Laur)

It’s Electric
Love these characters—sure, they’re static, but after reading this article in the times, it doesn’t seem like such a stretch that you could learn to love a robot. Especially the squishy kind that’s good for napping. Or decoration. (-Moe)

Pretty as a Picture
So I have this cool app on my iPhone called, appropriately, Palettes, that lets you take a photo and turn it into a color palette. Because you know how you read a magazine and (I’ve been guilty of this, I’m sure) it’s like, “get your inspiration from nature,” and you’re like, um… so my apartment should look like a blade of grass? The reason this app is so awesome is that it sees all those colors that you don’t even notice—so when I took this snap of the Statue of Liberty on a boat ride over the weekend, it caught all those greys and peaches and dusty blues that I might have overlooked. Neat, huh? (-Moe)

Dinner with Friends
Everyone knows that kiddos are messy at dinnertime and hard to keep in their seats—and I think these placemats could be a solution. Not only do they collect food, but you can draw on them with washable or dry erase markers, too. Click through for the other designs, very cool. (-Moe)

Shades of Summer
Ooh! I can think of one place where it gets hotter and sweatier than NYC in the summer: Jaipur, India. I bet the camel in this photo was NOT comfortable with all that gear on when this photo was taken. (-Moe)

Hot Times
…summer in the City/Back of my neck gettin’ dirty and gritty
If you don’t quite have the meditative powers to channel the cool country air like Laur suggested yesterday, maybe one of these colorful fans (in seven more colors, too!) will help easy the pain of this sweaty day. (-Moe)
Retro fans, $69 each, The Company Store.

OMG <3!
You know, kids these days don’t know anything about delayed gratification. Between the texting and the FB messaging and straight-up email, they’ve lost the joy of receiving a carefully worded thought, transmitted via pen and paper, a whole two days after it was thunk. I’m talking about letters, people! So go get your teen some of this stationery—maybe the monogrammed acronym will make them more comfortable with the concept. (-Moe)
LOL 3 Ways Stationery, $19 for set of six, Rock of Ages Press.
