Blocked In

I love lighting. Period. Not because it, well, lights things. But because there are some really awesome fixtures out there that can add a unique or architecturally interesting element to a room. This pendant would look fabulous in an odd grouping over a kitchen island with curvy chairs (to balance out all the structure). (-Allie)

Lazy Daze

It’s sunny here in Seattle (finally). And this daily obsession provides the main ingredient for my ideal sunny-day recipe: hammock + sunny sky + slight breeze + margarita = happy me. All that this fatboy is missing is a cup holder. Perhaps I’ll get to work on the prototype… (-Allie)

Cock-a-doodle DO

I love summer entertaining — so I love bringing in fun dinnerware to bring those meals to the next level. How cute are these chicken plates? (-Allie)

Grill Time!

My boyfriend and I have been considering getting a bbq grill for some summer entertaining. The problem? One of us cares more about function; the other, fashion. (Can you guess which is which?) While he’s eying top-of-the-line Webers, my suggestion would be more along the lines of these adorably colorful tabletop beauties. Sadly I think I know who’s going to win this argument… (-Allie)

A Wirey Situation

Side tables need not be boring wood squares with the sole purpose of holding table lamps and the occasional cup of tea. I’m a firm believer that each piece of furniture in your home should also serve an aesthetic purpose–and side tables are a great option for bringing in an artistic element. This curvey, wirey table are one fab way to do that. (-Allie)

It’s Foxy

Every time I see Foxgloves I think of spending Sunday afternoons at my grandparents house. Along the back and side of the house, my Grandma grew white and purple Foxgloves–a beautiful stemmy thing normally found in the wild. That’s why I’m loving this shower curtain by Lily Pulitzer. It’s also a fabulous way to add an awakening punch of color to your bathroom. (-Allie)

Stick to It

We inherit a lot of traits from our parents — one of mine? A reliance on sticky notes to run my schedule and keep my To Do list conquerable (thanks Dad). These leafy babies are my style saving grace. Instead of random bright yellow stickies covering my apartment, I can now have a more decorative look to my frantic system. (-Allie)

Warm Modernism

I despise the notion that a contemporary interior need be cold and minimal. That misconception fueled the Swatchbook of the Week–as did another misconception, that high style comes at a high price. This living room option proves that it’s possible to achieve a cozy, modern interior — even on a tight budget. Opt for a terracotta or rusty red to establish a cozy vibe. Wood elements add further warmth, especially when paired with a sleek modern sofa. When on a tight budget, turn to stores like CB2, Ikea and West Elm for large pieces, then hunt for affordable accessories through Overstock, Amazon or the sale section of your favorite sites.
