Marriage of Styles

I know we did a dining room last week, but recently my boyfriend’s lovely mother was asking me for some tips on redoing her casual dining room. She faces a pretty common conundrum — her home lends itself for a more midcentury or contemporary style, but she loves a more traditional, french country flare. The two styles may seem at odds, but there’s a way to marry them cohesively. Here’s just one option for her to get a look she’d love — that would look right at home. A casual french-country table is modernized with natural linen chairs. A modern pattern gray area rug adds some playful interest while serving as a neutral. And I love the warmth of a caramel-yellow in a dining room, especially if you have white floor boards and wood floors. And, to top it all off with some “flare” — add a pop of metallic with the light fixture. (-Allie)

*For an extra modern edge, mix-and-match your chairs. Pair end chairs, then bring in a new style for the center chairs, such as these or these.
