So I have this cool app on my iPhone called, appropriately, Palettes, that lets you take a photo and turn it into a color palette. Because you know how you read a magazine and (I’ve been guilty of this, I’m sure) it’s like, “get your inspiration from nature,” and you’re like, um… so my apartment should look like a blade of grass? The reason this app is so awesome is that it sees all those colors that you don’t even notice—so when I took this snap of the Statue of Liberty on a boat ride over the weekend, it caught all those greys and peaches and dusty blues that I might have overlooked. Neat, huh? (-Moe)

I keep seeing vivid zigzag rugs paired with antiquey furniture (most recently in the pages of Lonny, which I would move in to right now, if that were possible!). It’s a fun way to make pieces that could seem old-fashioned or fussy look eclectic, instead—the decor equivalent of spending an hour putting together the perfect outfit, then answering a compliment with, “oh, this old thing?” (-Moe)

Record highs this week! And all of a sudden I feel like surrounding myself with bright, bright color, like cloudless sky blue and new grass green (I was obviously just easing into it a few weeks ago with those pastel hues, and Allie’s got spring fever, too!). Colors this bold are best offset with stark black and white—anything else would get washed out. And now that it’s light outside in the morning, they seem a perfect fit for a sunny breakfast nook. So. We’re on the hunt for a new rug for the living room. We’ve had a cream shag carpet for the last two years, and we love that it’s super-soft and stylish, but it’s starting to look a little dingy. And it is a PAIN to clean. You have to vacuum it, then brush it like a puppy. I’ll show you photos of the furballs, if you ask nicely.
Anywho: We need a new rug. We want it to be light-ish, to brighten up our little apartment. Cool, but not too weird. On trend, but not too trendy.. . You get it. So here are some styles we’ve come across – any favorites? And see if you can guess which ones don’t quite strike that perfect balance of gender neutrality we’re looking for in our coed apartment.
